On 30 January 2003, Jos Verstappen (father of Max Verstappen) tested Avon tyres with Minardi at Valencia as part of an evaluation for both the tyres and his potential return to Formula 1. Avon was exploring a possible entry into F1, and Minardi was considering switching tyre suppliers. The test gave the team a chance to assess Verstappen’s performance after a year out of the sport.
